Zahid Somani
Zahid Somani is a pharmacist with over 25 years experience in HIV care. When he graduated from University of Toronto in 1993, HIV was treated with high dose AZT and not much else. Clients would die every week and had to deal with many opportunistic infections and cancers. As his career progressed, Highly Active Anti-Retroviral Therapy (HAART) became common place and lives improved, although with a high pill burden, side effects and stigma.
In 2001, frustrated with the level of pharmaceutical care offered by the big pharmacy chains, Zahid opened The Village Pharmacy on Church Street. It may have been the first HIV Specialty Pharmacy in Toronto. Since then, 2 more locations have opened, providing competent, judgement free care in HIV and now expanding into Injectables and PrEP.
Zahid is thrilled to be on the board of TTG and is looking forward to making a meaningful contribution.
